First Announcement of the International Conference
»Political Foundations in Europe: Mobilising the Citizens and Raising Political Culture«
We live in a time when everything conspired against political activity, it often seems that politics itself has no real answers. Democratic, pluralistic, transparent and knowledge-based function of politics should become the focus of all political parties and organizations, which are operating in the public policy structuring .
At the international conference "Political Foundations in Europe: Mobilising the Citizens and Raising Political Culture" we will present political foundations and organizations for the public policy analysis that in Western Europe and the USA for decades effectively form a part of supportive environment for the functioning of political parties, care for transparent political arguments and assist citizens in translating their needs and interests into the political arena.
International conference "Political Foundations in Europe: Mobilising the Citizens and Raising Political Culture", which will take place on 10th and 11th of October 2013 at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, will be an excellent opportunity to exchange views on the challenges of political development in the postmodern state and hold an important debate on the possibilities of introducing political foundations in Slovenia.
The debate will bring together eminent representatives from the field of political research, political foundations and active politicians from Europe and Slovenia. It will open a space for international discussion and exchange of global experience.
Among the invited guests are: Prof. Timothy Garton Ash, Professor of European Studies, University of Oxford (UK); Alenka Bratušek, President of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia; Robert Benjamin, a Senior Research Associate and Regional Director, NDI (USA ); Dr. Enrico Calossi, European University Institute, (Italy); Dr. Gregor Virant, Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Slovenia; Lousewies van der Laan, Vice President of ALDE party. The event will also be attended by Slovenian experts, including Prof. Danica Fink Hafner, Faculty of Social Sciences; Felicita Medved, president of the European Liberal Forum and others.
International conference will be organised by Novum Institute and the European Liberal Forum, with the support of the following foundations: the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (Germany), Academy of Liberalism (Estonia), the Democratic Initiative Foundation (Netherlands) and the Liberal Future Forum (Austria).
